Practice areas

Four areas, handled start to finish.

We keep the list short on purpose. Anything outside it goes to a firm we would use ourselves.

01 Estate planning & probate

Wills, trusts and the estates that follow

Wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives, drafted so the people who sign them can read them. When a death has already happened, we walk the executor through probate in the county court, from the first filing to the final settlement.

02 Business & commercial

Formation, contracts and succession

Forming the company, writing the operating agreement, reviewing the lease, papering the sale. We also handle the conversation most owners put off — who runs the business, and on what terms, when the founder stops.

03 Real estate

Closings, title and the line on the map

Residential and commercial closings, title review, deeds and easements, and the boundary, access and right-of-way questions that come with older parcels. Landlord and tenant leases reviewed before they are signed, not after.

04 Family law

Divorce, custody and agreements that hold

Divorce, parenting plans, support and modifications, plus the prenuptial and separation agreements written to survive a reading years later. Negotiated where that serves you, tried where it does not.

Our approach

Two partners. One of them reads every file.

A firm this size can do something a larger one cannot: hold the whole of a matter in one head. The partner you meet at the first consultation is the partner who drafts the documents, files them, stands up at the hearing, and answers when you call about it a year later.

We will tell you early what a matter is likely to cost and what it is unlikely to accomplish. If a different firm is better suited to it, we say so at the first meeting and make the introduction.

Neither of us has ever handed a client file to someone they have not met.

Before we start
A written scope and a fee estimate, so the cost of the matter is never a question you have to ask.
While it runs
Calls and emails answered within one business day, by the partner who already knows the file.
When it closes
Signed originals, a plain summary of what was done, and a note of what to revisit and when.

How we work

Three steps from the first call to the signed file.

Nothing is billed and no file is opened until the scope and the fee are written down and you have said yes to both.

  1. 01

    The first conversation

Thirty minutes at no charge, in the office or by phone. You describe the situation; we tell you whether it is a matter we should take.

  2. 02

    Scope and fee

A written summary of the work, what it costs, and what we need from you. A flat fee wherever the work allows one, an hourly rate where it does not.

  3. 03

    The work itself

Drafting, filing, negotiating, closing. You hear from us at each step, not only when the matter is finished.

Request a consultation

Tell us what you are dealing with.

A few sentences is enough. We call back within one business day and tell you plainly whether this is a matter for us, for another firm, or for no lawyer at all.
